Meet the Richardson Team Behind Mainspring Garage Door Co.
Our Richardson crew is the same group you’ll see on every call. We don’t rotate strangers through your neighborhood. These are the people who answer when you call (945) 495-3552, who show up in uniform, and who put their names on the work. What ties us together is simple: we were all trained the same way, we all work under the same 90-Day Done Right Promise, and none of us leaves a job half-finished.
Our People
Carl Dutton, Owner
I started this company in 1984, back when Richardson was still figuring out how big it would get. The name Mainspring comes from the actual spring that carries a garage door’s full weight - one part fails, nothing works. That idea stuck with me. I’ve spent 42 years hiring people who understand that a homeowner doesn’t care about our internal process; they care that we show up when we say, quote the price before we start, and don’t argue if something needs fixing. I still take calls myself, especially after hours. If the phone rings at 2 a.m., it’s either a real emergency or someone who needs to hear a human voice. Either way, I answer.
Marcus T., Lead Technician
Marcus has been with us fourteen years, and he’s the one we send when a door is doing something nobody can diagnose. He’s factory-certified on LiftMaster, Genie, and Chamberlain openers, but his real specialty is torsion spring systems in older Richardson homes - the kind with original hardware that doesn’t match modern specs. Last March, he spent three hours in a Heights Park garage tracking down a voltage drop that was making a brand-new opener stall every third cycle. Turned out to be a corroded junction box from a 1987 renovation. He carries a notebook with hand-drawn wiring diagrams from jobs like that. Off the clock, he restores vintage motorcycles and applies the same patience to both.
Elena V., Senior Installer
Elena runs our new door and replacement jobs across Richardson, Plano, and Garland. She’s installed everything from basic steel singles in Canyon Creek rental properties to full custom carriage-house setups in Prairie Creek Estates. She holds Clopay and Amarr master installer certifications, which matters less to her than the fact that she’s never had a callback for a door going off-track. Elena checks every horizontal track with a level, even when the opening looks square. “The wall lies,” she says. She grew up in a family of carpenters, and she still calls her uncle when she hits a header that’s been modified twice by previous owners. Her truck is organized the same way every Monday morning.
Darnell K., Service Coordinator
Darnell is the live voice answering at (945) 495-3552 when you call. He’s been with us eight years, and he knows which technician is where, what parts are on which truck, and whether your particular Genie model is still under factory warranty. He grew up in Lake Highlands, so when someone says “the neighborhood near the old Target on Belt Line,” he knows the house style and usually the likely door weight. Darnell schedules, confirms, and follows up on every job personally. He also handles the senior and veteran discount without anyone having to ask twice. Outside work, he coaches youth basketball and applies the same scheduling rigor to tournament brackets.
Jesse R., Apprentice Technician
Jesse joined us two years ago after completing a vocational program at Eastfield College. He’s still in his journeyman training under our K.E.Y.S. code, working directly with Marcus on spring replacements and cable repairs. He’s not allowed to work solo on high-tension systems yet, and he knows why - a torsion spring stores enough energy to cause serious injury or worse if handled wrong. Jesse’s current focus is learning to eyeball door balance without a scale, which takes longer than people think. He grew up in Richardson and still lives near Spring Valley Road, so he takes personal pride in doing right by neighbors who might recognize his parents at the grocery store. He’s the one who restocks the trucks on Sunday evenings.
One Standard, Every Job
Every person on this page works under the same agreement we put in writing on every invoice: the 90-Day Done Right Promise. If something we installed or repaired isn’t right, we come back. No paperwork to file, no dispute line to call, no manager to escalate to. The technician who returns might be Marcus, Elena, or Jesse, but the standard is identical because Carl trained them all personally or approved their training personally.
Our trucks carry the same inventory whether we’re headed to a repair in Duck Creek or a full replacement in Richland Park. Same background checks, same uniforms, same flat-rate pricing quoted before any work starts. The only thing that changes is the garage door we’re standing in front of.
We’ve been at this since 1984. The technology has changed - belt drives instead of chain, smart home integration, insulated panels for Texas heat - but the reason people still call us hasn’t. We show up. We quote honest. We stand behind it.
